So, as you can see, there is a big difference between a Personal Licence and Premises Licence! If you are wanting to sell alcohol, you will need both. Personal Licences are granted by the local authority and Premises Licences are also granted by the local authority.

 

You will need to have a Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) check done in order to apply for a Personal Licence. Once you have been granted a Personal Licence, it is valid for 10 years.

Scottish Personal Licence  

There is also something called a Scottish Personal Licence. A Scottish Personal Licence is required if you want to sell alcohol in Scotland.
